Route Map

Day 1 - Bowness on Windermere to Keswick. 18.7 km (11.6 miles)

We left Bowness on Windermere at 3pm heading for the A6 above Kendal where our land lady for that night (Bridge House, Kendal) had arranged to meet us. The weather was clear as we left the Lakes arriving at the A6 at 7pm.

Our land lady dropped us back at the A6 to start today's walk. A cold start with a covering of snow on the Howgills and the high Lakeland peaks.

Day 3 - Dent to Yockenthwaite. 31.2km (19.4 miles)

Leaving The Sun Inn at Dent we knew today was going to be a long day. We had decided to avoid the road section between Ewegales Bridge and Blea Moor Hill, by diverting to the Craven Way. This would take us around the flanks of Whernside and across Blea Moor before rejoining The Dales Way and heading out across Cam Fell.

A shorter walk today along the Wharfe valley to Grassington, which is a relief as I now have a large blister on my heel. We stop at Kettlewell for lunch in the Racehorses, then arrive early at Grassington so time to enjoy the local nightlife!
