Route Map

Having spent the night at Sykeside we set out to climb High Street the forecast was for strong winds, rain and snow. For most of the walk the weather was fine, but on High Street itself we had strong winds driving hail and a wind chill of at least -10°.
Leaving the campsite by the western gate we walked down to Brothers Water, then onto Hartsop. We took the bridal path to Hayeswater, and then continued past The Knott onto High Street. Following the old Roman road to Thornthwaite Crag and down to Thornthwaite Mouth. Here due to the weather we changed our original plan to climb Stony Cove Pike and descend via Rough Edge. Instead we headed down Threshthwaite Cove back to Hartsop and Sykeside.
