Route Map
First walk in the Lakes for over a month, the Fairfield Horseshoe incorporates eight Wainwright’s. I parked outside the church at Rydal and climbed Nab Scar, enjoying the early morning sunshine which didn’t last long.
From Nab Scar I follow the ridge route to Heron Pike and Great Rigg, the cloud enveloping me then clearing to reveal the fells. On the summit of Fairfield the cloud lifts just long enough to see Helvellyn and Striding Edge, then on toward Hart Crag and Dove Crag last visited in March with a covering of snow.
The cloud now lifted I follow the wall to High Pike, Low Pike and on to High Brock Crags, Low Brock Crags to join the old coffin road back to Rydal.
